Pentewan and the area
Thorncliffe Bed and Breakfast was
originally owned by Captain Hawkins, when it was
a busy port for cargo and local fishing boats.
At the side of the garden, just visible, are some
steps in the cliff down to the pub where captain
and crew could sneak back in! These days, however,
guests have to stagger 25 steps.
We overlook Pentewan harbour and
the long curving beautiful sandy beach with its
variety of water sports - sailing, water skiing,
canoeing, swimming or just sitting watching the
ever changing sea and sky. At opposite ends of
the beach you can access the coastal paths, one
to Mevagissey and the other onto Charlestown.
We are within minutes of The Lost
Gardens of Heligan, Eden and numerous National
Trust Gardens and there are also two local golf
courses. We are centrally situated to be able
to visit most of the rest of Cornwall.
The pub, The
Ship Inn, offers good pub meals and a lovely
range of local beers in a friendly atmosphere.
Next door to the pub there is Cobblers
the village gift shop and round the corner in
the village square there is a tea and gift shop.
There are also two sailing/water sports shops,
a restaurant, cycle hire shop at the start of
the river/cycle path and the local garage with
shop. To see future events in Pentewan please
